The holidays have officially arrived! If your have a child in your life who loves all things American Girl grab them and their doll and head to Tyson’s Corner for a very special American Girl tea at the American Girl Bistro.
My daughter, son, and I are big fans of teatime at American Girl. We go at least a couple of times a year for special occasions like birthdays and once in a while just because it’s so much fun.
When I saw that American Girl was hosting several special holidays teas this year I knew my children would love it.
The tea starts by being seating along with your child’s doll. If your child doesn’t have a doll the café will provide one for your child to dine with if they wish.
Dolls are provided with a high chair so they can take seat at the table. Dolls also receive their very own place setting with a cup, plate, and placemat that children are encouraged to take home with them at the end of the tea.
While waiting for tea to be served, the café provides a couple of activities. On the back of the doll’s placemat are conversation questions that my kids and I found fun to answer.
Children are also given a kit to use to make their very own no-sew holiday scarf for their doll.
Every guest, including children, are given a small teapot with their choice of tea, pink lemonade, or hot chocolate. Then, tea is served in two courses and it is a feast! The first course includes kid-friendly foods like pigs-in-a-blanket and mini burgers along with some more typical high-tea offerings like scones and English cucumber sandwiches.
American Girl is very tuned into dietary restrictions and allergies (the 2019 Girl of the Year Blaire has allergies) and they are able to make modifications as needed, although it is recommended to call in advance. The second course is all about desserts! Guests each receive a Gingerbread Girl, white chocolate mousse cup, and snowman cookie. In case you were wondering, to-go boxes are available if you can’t finish your holiday tea feast!
To end the tea, children are invited to a hot chocolate bar where they can make a make-at-home hot chocolate in a bag with marshmallows, chocolate chips, and peppermint to enjoy later.
My family had a wonderful time enjoying our holiday tea! I loved doing the activities with my children and the food was delicious and abundant. My kids loved everything about the tea.
They felt very grown-up with their own tea pots and both loved “feeding” their dolls. My son, four, and my daughter, nine, both enjoyed themselves equally. We also enjoyed walking around the store and enjoying the festive, and very pink, decorations.
Check out dates for the Holiday Tea and other special holiday events here. The holiday tea is $22.00 per person and reservations are strongly recommended.
A trip to American Girl for a Holiday Tea makes a great outing or respite from holiday shopping. If the Holiday Tea doesn’t fit your schedule, the American Girl cafe offers regular tea times as well as lunch, dinner, and treats at other times!
