American Girl Mania Sweeps DC

American Girl has always been popular, but American Girl mania has been sweeping the DC area with the anticipation of American Girl Live coming to Strathmore in early March and the release of the 2019 Girl of the year.

2019 American Girl of the Year, Blaire Wilson: Blaire is an adorable, green-eyed, red-haired modern girl most girls can identify with in some way. She loves watching cooking shows and spending time with her mom in the kitchen, has food sensitives, loves animals and party planning, and finds ways to give back to her community. Like many American girls, Blaire loves people but struggles with being present with those she loves because she is often distracted by her tablet. Through Blaire’s story, American Girl hopes to promote quality family time free of technology and help children strike the right balance between the real world and the digital one.

American Girl Tea: The American Girl store in Tyson’s Corner has a full-service bistro, serving treats (including ice cream), lunch, dinner, and an adorable tea. Any meal at the bistro includes a high-chair for your child’s doll along with some items you can bring home: a doll-sized cup, plate, and placemat. If you don’t have doll, don’t worry – the bistro has plenty of American Girls (and American Boys) you can borrow. American Girl Tea is a special experience where you and your child can enjoy a just-right high tea experience which includes beverages including pink lemonade or hot chocolate in a teapot, fruit kabobs, muffins, mini-cucumber sandwiches, and more. No afternoon tea would be complete without treats, and American Girl tea wraps up with a cupcake, cookie, and chocolate mousse.  There are many thoughtful details throughout the experience, from little flower decorations to an activity for children to do while you wait to be served and questions designed to spark conversation on the table. Children are even given a goodie bag to take home, which includes a t-shirt and balloon for their doll. You can also add-on additional experiences, such as cupcake decorating.

American Girl LiveYour American Girl fan won’t believe her eyes when she sees some of her favorite dolls come to life. Rebecca, Maryellen, Julie, Nanea, Luciana, and Melody head to overnight camp with some real-life girls and the dolls provide some much needed advice to the girls as they navigate through fears and obstacles. Empowered by the stories of the American Girls, told through song in the style of their respective eras, the girls learn the meaning of friendship, perseverance, and resilience. American Girl Live is headed to the DC area for one day only – March 3rd. There are two shows, at 2:00 and 6:30. Tickets start at $30 with the option to add on VIP experiences including photo ops and a dining experience.
