Outdoor Playgrounds in Ashburn
#3 Ashburn Park
43645 Partlow Rd, Ashburn, VA 20147 | Website
Ashburn Park, which is also known as Dinosaur Park is a nice, naturally shaded playground for kids.
The park actually has 4 playground structures all right next to each other for the youngest kids all the way up to about 12 years of age.
The playground itself has several different play structures and swings.
While I wish they had more benches next to the park so parents could sit while the kids play, they do have both covered and uncovered picnic tables nearby.
Since we often bring a picnic, I just lay the blanket out while we’re at the park.
Between the playgrounds and the nature trails, this is a great way to let them burn off steam in a nice setting.
Park Features
- Nature trails
- Playground with multiple structures
- Covered and uncovered picnic areas
- Wooded areas (nice shade!)
- Actual bathrooms (not porta potties)
We also enjoy going on nature walks on the paved walking trail and when it’s nice enough outside, my kids love playing in the stream.
If the parking lot is full, there is a second one available.
#4 Trailside Park
20375 Claiborne Pkwy, Ashburn, VA 20147 | Website
Trailside Park is one of our favorite playground areas. This is a 20-acre park with a large, great playground.
I definitely consider this a hidden gem in Ashburn. There are lots of nice, green shaded areas, so it’s a perfect place to get a side even during the summer.
If you haven’t been to Trailside Park in awhile, let me tell you, this newer playground is a huge improvement!
Playground Features
- A massive 3-story older kid playground
- A 3-story slide
- A large set of swings (and not just your ordinary swings)
- A smaller kid playground
- Plenty of obstacles to climb on
My older boys absolutely love the 3-story high slide. I have not been able to find a taller slide in Loudoun County, unless maybe, you consider the water park in Sterling.
There is a swing that can fit both my small kids together which is so much fun for them.
After they’ve burned off some energy, I personally enjoy grabbing the stroller and walking with my toddler along the trail. The WO&D trail actually connects right to the back of the park.
Other Park Features
- 3 lighted baseball fields
- A roller hockey rink
- Access to the WO&D trail
The path is paved and it’s such a lush, green, peaceful area.
When my older child isn’t in school, we sometimes come, and he rides his bike on the trail while I walk.
Trailside Park is also a great option on the weekends if you want to get out of the house for several hours and are looking for a relaxing, yet fun place for the whole family.
#5 Bles Park
44830 Bles Park Dr, Ashburn, VA 20147 | Website
Bles Park is a beautiful park we enjoy visiting to walk along the water. We often walk along the Potomac Heritage Trail from Bles Park.
And although the kids have a blast doing that, the highlight for them of course is the playground.
The playground is rather small though and is geared towards the younger ones, so if you have older kids they may be disappointed.
They have floodplain, wetland, and pond habitats in the park, although we tend to prefer Claude Moore Park.
It is a nice place to see the birds, enjoy green open space or bring the soccer ball to pass.
Other Park Features
- Wetlands & river
- Soccer fields
- Trails and wooded areas
- Lacrosse and football
#6 Potomac Green Neighborhood Park
20750 Marblehead Dr, Ashburn, VA 20147
This community park has a lot of great options for sports.
They have 3 multi-purpose athletic fields including:
- Soccer fields
- Football fields
- Lacrosse fields
- 1 Baseball field
- Bocce ball
There is also a horseshoe station you can find on the other side of the baseball field, a fitness station and a walking path.
They have a newer playground and neat swings for the kids.
There really isn’t any shade or cover at this park, so make sure to bring plenty of water during the summer months.
#7 Hadley’s Park
Champion Dr, Sterling, VA 20166
Hadley’s Playground is a huge (4,000 square foot), awesome, colorful playground surrounding by green lawns. The playground itself is accessible for children in wheelchairs which is really nice.
In my opinion, the playground is best for younger kids from around 2-8.
You won’t find swings here but there are lots of sections for the kids to hide in and play pretend which they love.
You’ll also find fun features like:
- Tube slides
- Swings
- Mini windows to play store
- A nicely maintained, big field for the kids to run
My oldest loves that there is a sidewalk that goes around the playground so he can ride his bike or scooter.
And I love that so I can always see him while the other kids are playing at the playground.
You won’t find a bathroom or water fountain here so plan accordingly.
