My friends and I used to call Springfield Mall the rat mall in the ‘80s. The shopping center was in need of an overhaul and in late 2014, finally got a stunning makeover. The now upscale Springfield Town Center has a movie theater with power reclining seats and the long awaited addition of a super fun children’s play area.
Where it’s located
You’ll find the indoor playground located on the second level by the food court, especially since it is inspired by healthy eating.
What’s to Do at the Springfield Mall Indoor Playground
The fruit filled playground is full of bright colors from yellow to freckled pink and indigo hues.
You’ll find a giant banana, a trio of baby apples, strawberries, kiwi, an orange slice, and a pair of shiny spoons filled with blueberries.
Kid’s can climb their way to the top of watermelon slices or slide down a bunch of grapes. It’s like being part of a giant fruit salad!
Along the walls are tic-tac-toe boards that match the funny fruit and veggie faces, mirrors, and two touch screen video games. These are great for some of the smaller kids as well!
Height & Age Restrictions
The fruit-filled space is designed for the 5 and under set with a maximum height of 42 inches.
What Else to Expect
There are cubbies to store shoes and spoon themed carpeted flooring for little wobblers. The walls of the space are placed higher than most play areas I have seen which I think is great.
There is plenty of cushioned seating around the perimeter. While there isn’t a designated stroller parking spot, there is wide room between the play area and the food court tables.
A container filled with thick chalk and a slanted chalkboard are surrounded by strollers.
Playground Hours
The area is open during mall hours Monday to Saturday 10am to 9:30pm and Sunday 11am to 7pm.
Location and More
Currently there are no books or puzzles which was the rumor. At the moment, there is a table, a circular pod of various sized stools, and a charging station for personal electronics.
What Shops are Close to the Play Area?
Most of the children’s retail stores are located on the lower level including:
- The Children’s Place
- Gymboree
- Crazy 8
- Brothers
