Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg

Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Virginia is not too far from the DC area, making it the perfect resort for a relaxing winter getaway.

Kingsmill Resort is also very close to Busch Gardens, historic Jamestown and Yorktown.

It’s a great destination for a long weekend away, a winter break stay or a vacation with extended family.

My family of six visited over the winter. We had a great time and came back feeling refreshed!

Here we cover what you can expect during your visit.

The Rooms

Kingsmill has something for everyone. There are rooms similar to standard hotel rooms to private cottages with one, two, or three bedrooms.

If you have very deep pockets, there is even an on-site mansion available.

Cottages have their own:

  • Full kitchens
  • Family rooms
  • TVs
  • Fireplaces
  • Comfy couches

They are a great place to spend downtime. It’s also a great choice for larger families, families where a parent needs some space and quiet to get some work done, or trips with extended family or friends.

The cottages are also very close to the James River, meaning the views are spectacular. There are even pet-friendly rooms if you want to bring your pup along for the trip.

If you are Covid-cautious a cottage is a great choice. Each cottage stands alone so absolutely no space is shared with anyone else.

The Grounds

The grounds at Kingsmill Resort are expansive and pretty! During our visit we saw many guests spending time just walking around taking in the sites.

Don’t miss views of the James River, a lake and the beautifully landscaped grounds.

Things to Do at Kingsmill Resort

Even though Kingsmill is so close to the major Williamsburg attractions, it is also a destination itself. There is a golf course, tennis courts, a spa, a fitness center, fishing, boating and more.

Some of the things you can do at the resort are:

  • Bike around the resort & surrounding neighborhood (rentals are available)
  • Fish on the James River
  • Play family golf
  • Relax on the lazy river
  • Events & shows

During the winter we did not partake in most of these events but there was still a lot to do. We loved the resort’s large indoor pool and hot tub. We also stopped at the on-site playground.

In the evening, Kingsmill often hosts events. During our visit they showed a family-friendly movie and hosted a magician show, both included in the price of a stay. Other winter activities include making s’mores!

There are also a couple of restaurants on site. We enjoyed a café overlooking tennis courts every morning for coffee and bagels.

Kingsmill is also a great destination in the summer, when an outdoor pool and lazy river are also open!
