Olney Indoor Swim Center

Located just off Georgia Avenue, the Olney Indoor Swim Center is a great place to get your kids ready for summer or take a vacation from the cold in the winter.

On Land

The swim center is clearly marked off of Georgia Avenue and has plenty of free parking. Open swim prices for Montgomery County residents are $6/adult and $4 for those under 17. Non-residents pay $7.50/adult and $6.50/child. There are large men’s and women’s locker rooms with restrooms, lockers, saunas and showers. In the women’s room there is a large shower “room”with 3 individual showers available. Please note that Montgomery County Pools request that children over the age of 6 use the appropriate changing room.

In the Water

The pool area consists of a 25 meter lap pool, a diving well with 1 and 3 meter diving boards (there used to be a slide but this was not there on our last visit), 2 hot tubs and a warm water leisure pool. The leisure pool has a beach entry and goes up to a maximum depth of 3 feet. There are water play features such as a cascading umbrella, dump buckets and a waterfall. There are two “bench”areas within the pool that kids can practice jumping and swimming from.

The water in the pool is kept at a comfortably warm temperature as well as the air temperature in the center itself. The biggest hit for my kids (ages 4 & 5) is the small water slide. Kids must go down solo but the slide is very slow and parents can help them exit from the slide area back in to the pool. Children are allowed to wear life jackets in the pool (these are not provided). Three lifeguards are stationed around the leisure pool area to keep everyone safe.

The leisure pool is open daily from 11:30am to 2:30pm and 3:30 to 5:30pm. Evening hours are available on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday nights from 7 to 8:30pm. Saturdays the leisure pool is available from 2 to 4pm and 5 to 7pm. Sunday hours are noon to 2pm and 3 to 5pm. The one hour breaks allow the staff to clean and service the pool and also provide an easy way to leave without too much drama when the lifeguard blows the whistle, everyone must clear the pool!

A few important things to note:

  • Non-potty trained swimmers must wear plastic pants over any swim diaper. These are available for sale in the lobby.
  • All children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult in a swimsuit.
