With cold descending and winter break looming, parents are on the lookout for new ways to keep the kids busy indoors. Just in time to save your sanity there is a new option – the Pop-Up PlayZone!
Located in a former supermarket in Silver Spring, Pop Up PlayZone! has tons of space for little ones to run around. There are many activities to choose from. The highlight for my kids (ages 8, 7, and 4) was the multiple giant moonbounces with slides, climbing walls, an obstacle course and of course lots of space to just jump.
Once my kids made it through all of the bouncy-houses they wanted to explore the other activities. Next up was riding large tricycles around a track – helmets were optional but added to the Grand Prix feel of the kids racing each other around and around. We also enjoyed the inflatable sports area where kids can throw footballs into holes, hit soft balls with a bat, and play some hoops. My husband enjoyed this area just as much as the kids!
There are also some computers set up with video games and my family’s favorite was using an iPad to race miniature cars around a track. Other activities include a dancing area with disco lights, a reading area, a dress-up area, and a giant parachute.
We spent about two hours at the Pop Up PlayZone! and the kids easily could have stayed longer. Because the Pop Up PlayZone! will only be open through the winter, there aren’t many bells and whistles beyond the play equipment. While it’s not fancy, it has everything kids and grown-ups need to have a good time. We saw kids from crawling through pre-teen having a blast on our recent visit.
On designated days there are also special events planned. Upcoming events include a pajama movie party, a holiday party with Santa, Superhero Training and a New Year’s Extravaganza. Popular children’s entertainer the Great Zucchini is a part owner and occasionally schedules performances as well.
There is plenty of parking, the space is stroller accessible, and there is a changing table. There are also some comfy seats set up for when Mom and Dad need a break!
The Pop Up PlayZone! is set to stay open through February 22nd and hopefully re-open next winter in another location. Tickets are $15 per child if purchased in advance through the website and $20 at the door. One adult is admitted free of charge with each paying child. There is no extra charge for most special events. Discounted ticket packages and a seasonal membership is also available for frequent visitors.
Don’t miss your chance to have fun in the Pop Up PlayZone! before it disappears!
