Summers Farm Fall Festival

A Farm Adventure!

Heading out to a farm for pumpkins is an annual tradition for many families, but the annual pilgrimage can be about more than simply choosing a pumpkin and heading home.  Enter Summers Farm Harvest Festival!

Every Fall, Summers Farm just outside of Frederick, MD hosts an old-fashioned Harvest Festival with more than 30 activities to choose from.  They have climbing hay bales, giant jumping pillows, a playground, opportunities to feed animals, pig races (weekends only) and much more.

Farm Fun Attractions

My kids loved the Crunchy Corn Cribs, three huge tent-like structures filled with knee-deep corn kernels and connected by a tunnel.  They also loved the corn mazes.  I liked that there were three maze options, a very easy “right turn only maze,” a shorter corn maze with stations that tell a story, and a longer, more complicated corn maze that takes about an hour to complete. My older kids loved the ninja course. The highlight for my kids was the huge and features a climbing wall and obstacle course. They went through multiple times. It was also hard to get them off of the giant jumping pillows.

There is also a pumpkin train, face painting, a zip line, tether ball, slides of all sizes and other fun activities that will keep the kids busy all day long.  Once thing that really impressed me about the Summers Farm Harvest Festival is not just how many activities there were, but that there were plenty of options for all ages from toddlers through teens.  Although we didn’t check it out ourselves, there are also nighttime activities available with campfires and fireworks.

Pick a Pumpkin at the Farm

No trip to a farm in fall would be complete without pumpkins!  Summers Farm has a huge variety that you can pick in the field or buy from their store. While we opted for pumpkins and gourds we could carry ourselves, we once saw someone leave with a hefty 76-pound stunner of a pumpkin.

And, of course there is food!  Summer Farm offers traditional apple cider and apple cider donuts along with other lunch and snack options, including pizza and popcorn. Some food options are only open on weekends.

It’s easy to spend all day at Summers Farm and we recommend a trip to Frederick to see for yourself!
