My two daughters were thrilled to attend a crafting class at the new Heartfelt Craft Shop in Vienna. Owned by local mompreneur, Blanca Munguia, this shop is a place for lessons, camps, parties and classes. Mrs. Munguia helps “girls ages 7 to 14 learn the practical arts of sewing and crafting as tools to be happy, inspire self-confidence and connect generations.”
The Heartfelt Craft Shop is stocked full of craft goodies and whimsical delights. Everything that Mrs. Munguia has done to make this craft shop special is shown in all the details. It was a dream comes true for my daughters.
We attended a Monday afternoon class that involved hand sewing and craft making. My daughters were able to pick out their felt colors and thread and had enough time to design a stitched monogram to hang. Classes run all year long and kids can take as many classes as they want (and withdraw at anytime), although when you continue on a weekly basis, you will have completed the entire Kids Can Sew curriculum.
The studio is filled with colorful fabrics, sewing machines, a bin full of stuffing, colorful ribbons, pin cushions shaped like cupcakes and strawberries, and much more. When a child signs up for a class, the teacher will walk them through the steps to make the designated items.
The Heartfelt Craft Shop intentionally keeps the class sizes small. I overheard her telling the children all about different types of stitching. She gave them practical instructions about how to cut thread. She was also very supportive and empowering and encouraged the girls to be positive about their work. I overheard “there are no mess ups,” “let me teach you,” “sure let’s turn on music”, and “What are the 5 rules of sewing ladies?”
The Girls Sewing Machine — Kids Can Sew program is a sewing machine class that is limited to just 6 students and meets once a week. You can pay for semester or a monthly payment. There is a one-time $20 registration fee plus a $30 patterns book fee. All other supplies and tools are included in the tuition. The Girls Hand Sewing + Embroidery + Crafting class is limited to 8 students per class and meets once a week. There is a $20 registration fee and all supplies and tools are included in the tuition payment for this class. Both class offerings have various rates depending on the date and number of weeks you end up signing up for.
The Heartfelt Craft Shop offers two hour blocks of time for birthday parties. All the details are on the website but Mrs. Munguia showed us some of the items that could be made at the parties and they were darling! The sky is the limit with theme options, some of which include: fairies, jewelry making, felt-baking, almost sleepover and more. The shop would be a delightful place for a birthday party. Parties are held on Saturdays from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. and 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.
Fun fact: the studio also offers two classes for adults — the sewing machine program and the hand sewing + crafting program currently on Monday mornings.
To keep up to date on class offerings, birthday parties and summer camps, we recommend you like their Facebook page and visit their website. If you need to contact the owner of the shop, the best way is to contact her via the online form on the website. She is hoping to grow her business to offer many more daytime offerings.
