The Cookie Jar DC

Admit it, you love eating cookie dough when you’re baking cookies at home, despite knowing it is not a good thing to do!  Well, I’m super excited to tell you that there’s a safe new way to satisfy those cookie dough cravings.  The Cookie Jar DC, started by local entrepreneur Lindsay Larner, offers gourmet edible cookie dough.  What makes it safe?  There’s no egg in it and they use heat treated flour The Cookie Jar DCso that there is no risk of any bacteria.

We tried out a Sampler Pack, which arrived in a cute box and contained four flavors — Chocolate Chip, Sugar Cookie Funfetti, Double Chocolate M&M and Oatmeal Raisin.  As many of you know, I have two teenagers and ever since my youngest was about five we have dubbed her “The Dessert Captain.”  She takes her dessert seriously.   Let’s just say she gave all four flavors two enthusiastic thumbs up (and so did the rest of the family).  Each flavor tasted just as the name described – they were all smooth and flavorful.

When you visit The Cookie Jar’s website you’ll be able to select from seasonal flavors.  Insider tip — they’re launching new Winter Holiday flavors very soon – Eggnog, Peppermint Mocha and Gingerbread.  The regular flavors are Classic Chocolate Chip (which also comes in a vegan option), Sugar Cookie Funfetti, Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal Raisin and Double Chocolate M&M.

Pricing starts at $9 per 10oz jar.  I think these would make an adorable dessert display for a party and The Cookie Jar offers Party Packs just for those occasions.  And can I say how A-DOR-A-BLE the jars are?

The cookie dough does contain milk, so you’ll need to store the product in your fridge.  It will last up to four weeks unopened, so once you open it, commit to eating it (oh darn!) within five days or store it in your freezer and it will last for months.

Where can you get these delectible desserts you ask?

  • The Cookie Jar DC stocks their product in a variety of local stores.  You can see a full list here, but Whole Foods Market, YES! Organic Market, Union Kitchen Grocery and Moorenko’s Ice Cream are just a few of the places.
  • Order online and schedule a pickup at either Union Kitchen or 14W Apartments in DC.
  • Order online from one of their delivery partners (i.e. UberEATS, DoorDash, Postmates, Caviar, Grubhub).  Fun fact – use code COOKIEJAR15 on UberEATS and get $15 off if you’re a 1st time UberEATS customer.
  • Order online and get it shipped whenever you like.  I’m thinking this would be a really cool holiday gift.

Bottom line: for a yummy take on a classic dessert, shop local and try out The Cookie Jar DC!  You can also follow The Cookie Jar DC on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter for the latest scoop.  Speaking of the latest scoop – sign up for their email list as they are going to have a Black Friday and holidays 25% off sale for purchases online.
